Public Futures explores possible futures of schooling arrangements in Australian secondary schools through a set of speculative design fiction provocations—presented in both physical and digital forms. Responding to the need for a more adaptable education system, the project shares “postcards from the future,” crafted by future students for the students of today. Each postcard combines data visualisation with storytelling, illustrating shifts in learning environments, a transition to interdisciplinary learning, and greater student agency. By engaging with these narratives, current students are prompted to think more radically about the futures of education, inspiring ideas for pathways toward a more equitable, responsive public school system.
